07 · FAQ

The questions homeowners actually ask before booking. If yours isn't here, message us — we'll add it.

How often should hedges be trimmed?
Most boxwood and privet runs hold their shape with two visits a year — one in late spring (after first flush) and one in mid-August. Formal-shape hedges and topiary want three. Arborvitae screens often only need one annual cleanup.
Formal shape vs. natural — which is right for my property?
Formal (square, hard edges) reads classical — colonials, brick fronts, anything symmetrical. Natural (soft, mounded) reads modern and is more forgiving between visits. Mixed properties usually do formal at the front entry and natural along the side and back.
When does new growth need its first shape?
Wait until 6–8 inches of new growth has hardened off — usually mid-June for spring growth. Cutting too early on soft tips invites disease and gives a sparse face. We'll flag plants we shouldn't touch yet on the photo report.
Do you handle large or overgrown hedges?
Yes. Anything past 8 ft or wider than 4 ft gets quoted as a renovation cut — usually a 2-year program: hard-back the first season, refine the second. We'll explain what the hedge will look like at each stage before you commit.
What if you spot disease or pest damage?
Photographed and flagged, no upsell. Common ones in this region — boxwood blight, winter moth on holly, scale on yew — get a written note with what we'd recommend. We don't sell treatment; we'll point you at a local arborist if it warrants one.
Can I combine this with lawn care?
Hedge work only — that's the whole company. Most clients pair us with their existing lawn service; we time visits the day before mowing so the clippings get caught. Happy to coordinate dates with your lawn crew.
